THE CONTEXT
Throughout the Great War, Arras along with Verdun were the only towns situated on the Front Line.
THE THEATRE OF THE ACTION
Impressiove underground chalk quarries had been dug in the south suburb of Arras since the Middle Ages.
THE SCENERY
From 1916, a network of gallerieswas set up by the New Zealand tunnelers, to link the quarries together and get closer to the German positions.
THE SCENARIO
Gathered within this secret base, over 20 000 soldiers from all over the world emerged from the underground
just a few meters from german positions, in the morning of April 9th 1917.

100th ANNIVERSARY OF THE BATTLE OF ARRAS
French people, English people, New-Zealanders, Australians, Canadians, Newfoundlanders, South-Africans, Scottisch, Irish, Welsh, all together we shall be present to commemorate the memory of our grandfathers who gave their lives to save ours.
9th APRIL : DAWN CEREMONY
On 9th April, at 6.30 am, a tribte is paid to the soldiers of the Commonwealth, at the foot of the Battle of Arras memorial wall.
The ceremony is open to all.

Guided and audio-guided tours. Audio-guides and movie are available in English, French, German and Dutch.
